A Cat on the Wire
Cindy Hyde with Guest Kimberly Russell
Maintain the power and the presence of the Lord throughout the day. Practical tips for Christian living.
Smith Wigglesworth says, "I know that salvation, while it is a perfect work, is insulation that may have any number of volts behind it. In the days when the bare wires were laid, when electric power was obtained from Niagara, I am told that there was a city whose lights suddenly went out. Following the wires, the repair man came to a place where a cat had gotten on the wires, and the lights had been stopped.
I find that a dynamo of heaven can be stopped with a smaller thing than a cat. An impure thought stops the circulation. An act can stop the growth of the believer.
So I find that if I am going to have all the revelations of Jesus brought to me, I must strive for all that God has for me through a pure and clean heart, right thoughts, and an inward affection toward Him. Then heaven bursts through my human frame and all the rays of heaven flow through my body. Hallelujah! It is lovely!" (Smith Wigglesworth Devotionals, 1999)
I don't know if you have ever felt the 'voltage' the 'power' of Heaven coursing through your body or not but I can tell you it is real. I must agree with Smith Wigglesworth, "It is lovely!" The power to heal is a reality. The power to perform miracles, signs and wonders is real. Mark 16:15-20 Jesus gives His disciples their last instruction before He left this earth for His Heavenly Throne. You know as well as I do that your last instructions, your final instructions, are the ones that are clarified and of vital importance. Once you have experienced the power of God flowing through you, you can never go back to normal. You will do what you can to keep the cats off your wire!

So we do devotionals every morning. We do several of them. We go through psalms and proverbs and one of the other devotionals we do is the Smith Wigglesworth devotional book. And today is August the 11th and when we did the devotional this morning. It's like, wow, that's so good. We had to read it. I actually had to read it twice and then this afternoon we had to read it another couple of times because. You know, sometimes when you, when you read something or when you learn something, the Lord gives you an opportunity to put into practice what you have learned. So I'm going to read the devotional to you and then I'm going to let Kimberly share her experience with you. And then we're just gonna talk for a minute. But the name of this devotional is a cat on the wire and you'll understand why I say that in just a moment.
This is from Smith Wigglesworth's devotional for August 11th. It says, the measure of Christ's gift Ephesians 4:7. To each of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Love that scripture. He said, grace and gifts are equally abounding in Jesus as you place your strength on Jesus as you allow the Holy Spirit to penetrate every thought, always bringing on the canvas of the mind a perfect picture of holiness, purity, and righteousness. You enter into him and become entitled to all the riches of God. I love that. How do you measure up today Smith Wigglesworth says. God gives us a measure to each one of us. God's grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. He goes on to say, I know that salvation, while it is a perfect work, is an insulation that may have any number of volts behind it. Yes, I said, volts as in like power, like electricity.
He said in the days when bare wires were laid, when electric power was attained from Niagara, he said, I am told that there was a city whose lights suddenly went out. Following the wires the repairman came to a place where a cat had gotten on the wires and the lights had been stopped. He goes on to say that I find that the dynamo of heaven and I can add the power of heaven can be stopped with a smaller thing than a cat like an impure thought stops the circulation. An Act can actually stop the growth of the believer. He says, so I find that if I'm going to have all the revelations of Jesus brought to me I must strive for all that God has for me through a pure and clean heart through righteous thoughts and an inward affection toward him.
Then heaven burst through my human frame and all the rays of heaven flow through my body. Hallelujah. It is lovely.
I agree. The measure of the gift of Christ remains in you. I cannot go on with inspiration unless I am going on with God in perfection. I cannot know the mind of the natural and the mysteries of the hidden things of God. Unless I have power to penetrate everything between me and heaven and there is nothing that goes through but a pure heart for the pure in heart will see God. Matthew 5:8. The thought for today. We must let him be enthroned and then he will lift us up to the throne.
So we read this devotional this morning and we were so excited. We're like, wow! Wow, wow, wow! That is so good. The power of Heaven that resides in us and we think yes! And you feel the presence of God when you're doing the devotionals and it's like, yes, God, I want your power flow in through me. Nothing's going to hinder me today because I've got you in me. I've got the power, the resurrection power of the Living Christ residing within me. There is nothing that I can't do because I'm more than a conqueror. I can do all things through Christ and build yourself up in your faith. And then what happens? We get out in the world.
Ah, so Kimberly leaves, she had some shopping to do for our tea party tonight for our last night of class. I find it interesting and I find it funny when we get out in the world and God sends us a test. He's like, okay, so you've read all this. You've heard all this, you feel like you can go out and you can conquer the world. And what happens? You go back out there and you know the Lord is going to give you an opportunity to test and put to work what you have just learned.

Are you there now, Kimberly? Yes. Hi Cindy. There you are. Good to have you with us to share your story. I've told them the devotional. I don't know if you heard all that part and we talked about how we think we can go out and, and we're more than a conquer. We're filled with the power of Christ and we can go out into the world and and be the light. And what happened?
Oh, you're going to get tested for sure. You're going to, you're going to have, the Lord wants to see if everything you just learned, you can actually stand up to, that you're able to walk in this because you're saying, God, I got it all together. Yes, I can do this. I can handle this and you go out there and, well, traffic one, traffic 101 anything and everything can happen in traffic when you're trying to exit a parking lot and so there comes the ugly word.
Okay, okay, I've got it together. I'm on drive down the street and I'm going to try this again. You get down the street, you get to point B and there's that one person, that sweet little old person that wants to ride right behind you, bumper to bumper all the way to your designation and I lost it. I was angry, frustrated, irritated, agitated, and I had an opportunity to stop being so aggravated and irritated and I just couldn't hold my thoughts for nothing. Everything that I had learned was out the door and I felt wretched by the time I had gotten through and got back to this office. I had to repent me almost 30 minutes.
She came in and she was a woman undone. Well. I had her set back down and I said, you know what, we need to read the devotional again because what happened, and the name of the devotional is a cat on the wire. What happened was when she went back through the devotional again, she saw that that one impure thought about the person that almost hit her in the parking lot, that one impure thought about the woman that was riding her bumper all the way through the drive through. She was having impure thoughts. Well, what does Smith Wigglesworth say? That you can stop the flow of power. You can stop the flow of, of the rays of heaven, you know, flowing through you with just one impure cat cat, a cat, one impure thought. Right?
So what happened is, ma'am I, when I got back to the office, I had a complaint fest and that's impure thought number three. That confession, yes, you confess your faults one to another. And we prayed for each other so that we could be healed just as the Scripture said. Yes.
Well then I tried to, then I was going to pray for one of our brothers and sisters that came here today. And I prayed them. I saw the Lord tell me what to say, but I just didn't feel the power of God moving on me. The anointing moving on me that I normally would because I had spent all the 30, 45 minutes previous to that angry and impure thoughts, and agitated and irritated. And that just hinders your prayer line. It's like a cat has done bit your wires in half. And it's taking that all from you.
Stops the flow, stops the flow. So we've got to take our thoughts captive and we've got to understand that that this world is this world and we live in it. And if we continue to let the things of this world affect us in a negative way, then we're never going to walk in the power and the glory of God. Like he intends for us to walk in. He's trying to produce you know, through the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is trying to produce the fruits of the spirit in our lives. The patience that goodness, kindness, the gentleness, you know, the patient's self-control. He's trying to produce all of those things, the meekness. He's trying to produce all of this in us and he will put circumstances in our lives, in our path as we just go about our daily lives that will allow us to let the Holy Spirit produce the fruit or are we going to continue to walk in the flesh and produce the fruit of the flesh, right?
Yes, absolutely. Yes. We must be mindful of our words daily, minute by minute, hour by hour, and we must take our thoughts captive or we will just remain hindered and never grow. That is a bad place to be.
Gotta keep them cats off the wires. If we want electricity in our house, we're spammy, likely city on a hill, well went for other people to see. But if a cat's on our wire and there's a short circuit between one place, the power source and, and the lights on the hill, then nobody's going to see your light. And we want to be lights for the Lord. We are the light of the world. So we encourage you today to really take your thoughts captive to really think about what you're thinking about. They are worse than cats on your wire, worse than cats. And I said, so it's a little sort of sad that you know, even a smaller thing than a cat can stop the flow from from the raise of how I loved that. So what else would you have for them, Kimberly?
Oh, how would you say? You know, just reach out there and you know, if you're going to be driving off for the day or having an adventure for the day, please just give your first breath your first morning, the very first part of your day to God so that he can help guard your time. Because you know that we still are human. Even though we want to be completely in spirit, we are still human and just one little thought is all it takes to just ruin the better part of our day. So yes ma'am.
What happened is, yes, what you're given is wonderful advice. How much time did we spend in our devotion and in worship this morning?
Oh, over an hour and a half. An hour and a half.
At least a minimum of an hour and a half. I just want to say that no matter how much time you spend in prayer and worship and devotion in the morning before you go out the door, if you do not practice every second, every moment, I mean there's going to be people in your path. There's going to be cars. There's going to be all kinds of obstacles, and the enemy will make sure that it's in the area that you're struggling, but you've got to produce, you've got to allow the spirit to produce his fruit in you, and you've got to moment by moment, you know the the, the Lord says, today is the day of salvation. Then it's like, yes, every day we must make a choice, but at every moment we must also decide, are we going to give into the flesh? Are we going to walk in the spirit? And I, I challenge you to stop giving into the flesh just a little bit more each day and to walk and submit, and yield yourself more and more everyday. God bless you till next time. God bless you.
